Samsung Intercept Review
Jul 27th
Samsung is back, and they expand their horizons Android by focusing on more than one demographic. Hot off the Galaxy S announcements a few weeks ago, the Mid-Range Intercept at Sprint has landed. Complete with Android 2.1, a full QWERTY keyboard and 3G connectivity, the replacement of the moment Samsung offers a nice feature set at a reasonable price. That being said, the focus seems to some high-profile devices such as the EVO 4G, DROID X, incredibly, iPhone and 4th What is more, have driven the innovations in smart phones in the air downwards. At $ 99.99, the intercept will take off in the sub $ 100 smartphone?
Design & Features
The device comes in a mid-top box which contains the mobile phone, battery, AC adapter, USB cable, 2 GB microSD card (installed on the phone), microSD card adapter, and operating instructions. It feels slim and light in hand, a departure from the bulky design of the Samsung is now. Coming in at 4.43 cm and 2.19 cm wide, 0.60 inches thick, weighs 4.9 ounces, the device, making it easily transportable in a narrow pocket, purse or briefcase.
The intercept has a few external buttons. On the left side, the volume rocker and microSD slot are found, while the 3.5 mm headphone connector and camera button on the right side. The Micro-USB charging port is on the top, and is the 3.2-megapixel camera on the back. Intercept a 3.0-inch WQVGA display offers 240 x 400 pixels and 16 million colors. Given the Intercept’s mid-range condition, it is perfectly acceptable, and also worked in any task I threw at it. Apart from that, I’m spoiled by high-resolution displays, and noticed immediately the difference. If you are of a high-end device of the migration are the intercept, you are likely to notice.

Usability & Performance
The intercept vessels with a custom Android 2.1 and Samsung “skin”. In contrast Sense UI and MOTOBLUR, Samsung’s adjustments are small. You will notice immediately, Sprint includes Sprint TV, Sprint NASCAR Cup Mobile, Sprint and Sprint Football Live zone. Sprint Navigation is not installed on the intercept, and my first thought is that the redundancy of the Sprint navigation and Sprint with Google Maps on the same device realized.
Total was decent thanks to the 800 MHz processor, although it experienced a few times where I was. Now and then, would the whole device freezes for 5-10 seconds, and would not respond to any of my gestures. I also learned a lesser version with the four tactile buttons (Menu, Home, Back, Search) under the touch screen. During my tests, there were many times where the four keys failed to register my gestures. I would inevitably tap the button five or six times, and there would suddenly come to life the registration every six gestures at once and opening random applications. It was frustrating, and I found myself pulling the battery several times.
With a full QWERTY keyboard, is the intercept one great device for those who text and e-mail on a regular basis. The buttons are large and tactile, making it easy to type a message on the go. The general layout of the keyboard is a bit funky and centered on the left by the arrow-key navigation, and Samsung put the “ZM” line between the spacebar, which makes it a little different than a normal QWERTY. Despite the differences, I was accustomed to the layout after a few days.
Sporting a 3.2 megapixel camera, it is not complying with 5.0 and 8.0-megapixel alternatives on the market, but the picture quality was decent with the right amount of natural light. The images I have after dawn and were grainy in low light, thanks to the lack of a flash. Editing options include Scene mode, white balance, color effects, metering, image, image quality and focus mode. Besides the camera offers the interception of a video camera, and it works good for the occasional recording. You have the option of setting for 30 seconds (for sending via MMS), 10 minutes or 30 minutes.

I have worked with the intercept in the metro Charlotte region, and the quality was good. Call quality has been consistently strong on my end, and my caller told me that they hear me well and that I was easy to understand. I tested the speakers in a crowded department store, and although the background noise was present during my test calls, most callers were able to understand the conversation. I paired my Plantronics Voyager Pro one headset to the intercept and callers were satisfied with the audio quality.
Intercept uses the Sprint EVDO (3G) network data, and while it faster instead of the Rev. 0 Rev. A, device speeds generally used for a decent mid-range device. CNN’s mobile site in about 14 seconds to load, and the full load Phonedog Homepage in about 40 seconds. Data-heavy applications like Sprint TV, Google Maps, and various downloaded Apps worked without problems.

The unit comes with a 1500 mAh battery, and although he was an Android device battery life surprisingly decent. With moderate use, including the call, SMS, instant messaging, browsing the Internet, using Google Maps (I’m a junkie Navigation), I could just about a day before the unit is turned off. Given the challenges plaguing high-end battery-giants like the EVO 4G, DROID X (which I have both set during the business day in account), it is a welcome change.
Conclusion
The Android platform is expanding at an exponential rate. Of the occasional unit here and there to a new phone every week, it’s hard to keep track of growth. published in a sea of summer, the Samsung Intercept one of the nicer mid-range devices with which I worked. The full QWERTY keyboard is spacious and ideal for typing, and it is yet another form factor for prospective buyers to consider. Hardware aside, Sprint pre-installed a number of benefits for free on their devices and price plans are generally cheaper than the competition. My only concern is the occasional lag and the problems I had with the tactile buttons below the display. Make sure to test the device (and the buttons) in memory before buying. The intercept is available at Sprint retail and online for $ 99.99 after a $ 100 mail-in rebate and new customer agreement.
Samsung Vibrant Android Phone Review
Jul 21st
Back in the fall, was able to build up some steam surrounding Samsung See II, since it is one of the few phones on the market, was to be different with an AMOLED display. Everything made on paper is definitely the phone quite interesting, and was at one point as part of the upper class of the Android smartphones at the time. Unfortunately for Samsung that it had a compelling device to consumers, yet another custom Android experience would do the courts. But T-Mobile certainly an ace up its sleeve in the form of the Samsung T959 Vibrant – their version of the Galaxy S. Already found himself in the comfortable position among others, Premier Android smartphone, the Vibrant grabs some things not found on the other variants is distinguished . However, there is no dispute at this point that the Vibrant is one of the largest mobile phone to grace T-Mobile this summer has become.
Design
The Vibrant Samsung employs exactly the same design and manufacturing quality with the Galaxy I9000 S, not to say that’s found a bad thing, but refreshing for the U.S. market if you take into account the stark difference to See II. Constructed primarily of this feeling slick durable plastic, it can not embody the premium feel of AT & T version, the Samsung Captivate holding, but practical and comfortable. It is a chrome frame that the enhanced representation in the resort, also adds an element of the charm of the handset while the patterned design on the back to find the same applies in the feat. One of the comforting things about the handset is that they are extremely thin (0.39 “), especially more so when you consider his packed internals’s – plus it is a lightweight (4.16 oz) handset that will not be charged in the bags. as construction, the Vibrant feels solid enough everywhere, but think we would, that his shiny plastic would be vulnerable to some external scratches.

If you are looking for, from lush colors and exquisite looking, you will be a lot to find with the Vibrant beautiful 4 “Super AMOLED display – hence the name perfectly sums all mixed up. He was watching for the first time someone will easily last through the generation AMOLED display on the See II find forgotten. Sizing up with a WVGA (480×800) resolution and support for 16.7 million colors, there is no dispute about the sheer shades and gradients to present it in a position – plus it is in able to pure black replicate it so much that you do not even know where the limits offered by the end of the touch screen. In addition, some large viewing angle and brightness to sheer you keep your eyes from every angle you glazed looks at it. Although it believe, to an improved experience to create outdoor in direct sunlight, there are some cases where it would be shadowing for a better look at what possible on the screen.
Gone are the front-facing camera and the physical key from the original, but apart from that, everything else is intact on the handset. The same four touch-sensitive buttons on the Samsung Captivate found to dominate the space below the screen, but fortunately this time they are more visible in low light, as it offers a brighter backlight. Physical buttons are minimal with the handset as the volume rocker and dedicated power button sticking to the sides – which unfortunately do not provide the most results are assured when you press. The 3.5 mm headset jack is on the top edge with the Micro-USB port found hidden beneath a locking. With the same patterned design that also shown on the original, the branding “Galaxy S” to “Samsung it.” Towards the top left of the back of the phone you will find the 5 megapixel autofocus camera search changed with the two notches for the speakers in the immediate vicinity. can remove the rear cover by simply tore it to be carried out – gives you access to the battery, SIM card slot and microSD card slot.

Caller said that our voice muffled somewhat and that the microphone sounded somewhat more sensitive than others because they are able to capture votes from a good distance it seemed. On our side there was some static sound in the background, but it is not arrogant, we still able to understand, words that were spoken. When using the speaker phone for our calls, it produces some great sounds that can be easily heard, but there were some that echoing was present. Despite some problems we found with the quality of the connection, it is still to be decent enough for most people to pass.
Although we do not have any connectivity issues with the network in the Greater Philadelphia region, we tended bar vary on the phone – even if we were stationary in the same place to see.

It is almost unheard of, a cell phone that a massive and bright screen still be able to provide you with a large battery – all the more when one Android-powered smartphone has seen. During our tests, we have the phone on automatic brightness and some heavy use, as we see, what can the longevity of trying to extract it. We were more than surprised at the handset battery to 50 percent find after a day of heavy usage. It is a safe bet to say that they managed set the bar for Android phones with its stellar battery life. For the average person, which under normal conditions, we would imagine that there may be a good two days before, the one charge. Probably the Super AMOLED technology, which is touted for its low power consumption, has something to do with it.
Samsung Captivate Review
Jul 20th
AT & T’s version of the Galaxy S offering the Samsung Captivate far AT & T is the best Android. But Samsung TouchWiz interface was not for everyone, and in my tests the phone a bit slow times. In addition, AT & T is at it again with his blocking of third-party Android apps.
Lightweight design, Gorgeous display
The Captivate is amazingly thin and light. The European S Galaxy looks very similar to the iPhone 3G, also on AT & T, to prevent confusion, I suppose that Captivate has a patterned, rubberized battery cover. Measuring 0.39 inches thick, the Captivate is thinner than the 4G EVO X and the Droid, but easily than the Hitachi in Ultraslim, 0.37-inch iPhone 4th It is the lightest of the group, with a weight of 4.2 ounces scarce.
The Captivate’s feather-light weight is in part because of its super AMOLED technology, the Samsung at Mobile World Congress Samsung presented on the Wave. Super AMOLED technology provides touch sensors on the display itself, as opposed to creating a separate layer (the old Samsung AMOLED displays had), so that it is the thinnest display technology on the market. Super AMOLED is fantastic – you really have to see it in person. Broke the color display and animations appear vivid and smooth.

The Captivate’s 4-inch display is larger than that of the iPhone 4 (that’s 3.5 inches), but smaller than the screen of the Motorola and HTC EVO X Droid 4G (both 4.3 inches). In spite of this small size of the Captivate outshone both the Droid and the EVO X 4G in my casual side-by-side comparisons. The Side-by-side with iPhone 4 was a closer call: the iPhone’s display 4 appeared slightly sharper, but I thought the colors looked natural Captivate. It’s really hard to explain a winner in this Matchup – both displays are breathtaking.
I have also tried several side-by-side tests with the bright light iPhone Captivate 4 and do, but in July in San Francisco does not mean exactly sunshine and clear skies. In the misty outside, was the Captivate brighter and more visible, but I would still like the “retinal display” against Super Pit AMOLED on a sunnier day.
Multimedia
The music player is TouchWiz touch-friendly and easy to navigate. It displays album art nice, even in an iTunes Cover Flow-style interface. Sound was on my own earphones clean and decent about the external speakers.
Video on the pre-installed application and saw MobiTV sounded great on Captivate. The playback was smooth with no pixelation, artifacts, or stutter. Video of AT & T Cingular Video service was far worse, however: The reproduction of the best goals of the World Cup was like an animated oil painting because it was much too vague. Audio also sounded hollow and tinny through the service.

One of the most fascinating features of Captivate is the Samsung Media Hub, will come with all the Galaxy S-telephones. Media Hub is Samsung’s answer to iTunes, a deal for the purchase of music and video. Unfortunately, Media Hub is not yet available to users now, according to my contact at Samsung, will launch Media Hub this autumn. Customers can use the service via an over-the-Air Update download.
Performance
Overall I was satisfied with the Captivate is the quality of the connection. My Contacts’ voice sounded clear, with lots of volume and no background hiss or static. I had pretty good reception and coverage of San Francisco.
Data transfer speeds were quite fast. I have started testing the browser only by my office and my apartment, but web pages and selected applications use the data connectivity and load pretty fast.

AT & T customers discouraged by the iPhone antenna four questions (among other problems) you can find the Samsung Captivate a worthy alternative. Its display is on par with the iPhone 4, and his camera “Advanced settings’ users much more freedom in their photo shoots. The interface can be a bit slow, but that’s not my biggest problem with the phone: AT & T again is blocking users from downloading applications not approved through the Android Market.
HTC DROID Eris Android Phone Review
Jul 14th
The Droid Eris is a low cost of HTC Android phone from HTC and Verizon. It is the second mobile phone runs on Verizon for the Motorola Android Droid. This is a popular Android phone and that’s probably down to it the price of $ 100. The Droid Eris was first published as the HTC Hero in Europe and then the Sprint HTC Hero in the U.S.. Basically this is like the Droid Eris has been transformed.
The Droid Eris has a simple design, modern and attractive. It is make with edges curved chrome it looks quite stylish. It’s simplicity is what attracts me, that looks like it. The phone has a 3.2-inch screen HVGA the lift and looks really great with the 320 x 480 pixel resolution. The colors are vibrant and stand out impressively. Like the iPhone, the Droid Eris You can use either high-or landscape in certain applications such as e-mail or if your Brosinger the Web. It has what is called an accelerometer that changes the screen aspect.

Nokia have their own keyboard into the phone. It is not the standard keyboard, the Android has had mixed reviews. I would say, this keyboard is easier to use with more space and responsiveness. Of course there is always the possibility of downloading a keyboard app, if you do not like the built here, but it is an improvement over the standard version of Android.
This android phone reacts when you use the touchscreen and there are no problems using it. At the bottom of the screen, you get four buttons or soft keys – Home, menu, back and zoom. It is as to what is more questionable, as the soft keys or hard keys Droid Eris has built to the hardware. I tend to think that go better with hard keys, because it is generally easier, feel them out and press them. If you are in the dark and can not see, it is useful to be able to feel what you are pressing.

With that said, I may be the design of the HTC Droid Eris and I do not think that hard keys would be in compliance with the simplicity of design. If this Android phone was released for the first time was run on Android 1.5. It has 2.0 now, and Android is version 2.1 to get in the very near future. Very good news, because with a phone that is as cheap as this at $ 100′s a great way to get a quick Android phone cheap. Android needed to open them on the market to more people.

This phone is a very good buy. A good phone with qulaity Verizon for $ 100, the Android version 2.1 have, it is going. The Android mobile phone has all what most people need. Good design, decent speed, it is responsive adaptive, has the latest version of Android, and it runs on Verizon, a reliable carrier with good coverage.
HTC Droid Incredible Android Phone Review
Jul 8th
HTC’s Incredible Droid is essentially a Jaguar and elegant version of the original Motorola Droid – comparatively, the aging lion at this point. But the easily mockable moniker is not really appropriate. The iPhone was unbelievable. The original Droid was almost unbelievable. Unbelievable is more like the smooth, mature, professionally run of all previous degree Android phones – the tip of the Android art. Apex – that would have been a good name. But it may also not live up to that description.
If you keep the original Motorola Droid and the Incredible side-by-side, there is no competition, at least physically. Although both have the same two-dimensional surface, the unbelievable about 13 percent thinner (0.47 inches deep, the Droid is 0.54 inches) and more importantly, almost an ounce and a half lighter than the Droid Pocket sagging. In some places, the incredible is even thinner back thanks to his sculptures, form-fitting cover, which is irregularly carved to match the battery compartment.

Both lead Android 2.1, which provides, inter alia, seven spacious home monitors in comparison to the three Droid. By tapping the Home button from any Home screen gives you an overview of all the iconic seven.
Inside is where the Incredible Droid increased cash. It is through a speedy 1GHz Snapdragon processor driven, compared with the Droid 550MHz engine, everything is loading faster. YouTube videos load almost a third faster on the Droid.
What is missing is the incredible Droid’s slideout QWERTY, so the Droid is so bulky. Whether it was an improvement (beyond the question of weight) is a personal decision. If you do not like touch keyboards, you will not like the Incredible, especially considering its too thin QWERTY in portrait mode and vice versa.
The Incredible also missing an FM radio, on the Droid. More importantly, are incredible 8 GB of onboard memory, so you may be able to avoid prying Open the battery compartment on thread in a microSD card.

Both phones sport a similar length of 3.7-inch, 480 x 800 pixel display (the Droid’s LCD is actually 800 x 854), the incredible shows off an AMOLED, which in theory is brighter and battery-friendly than LCD, although won ‘t see much improvement, especially in view of the stellar Droid screen. The Incredible’s AMOLED is a bit brighter, brighter and more colorful than Droid LCD also excellent, but these are only small differences, perceived by the two monitors side-by-side.
Although AMOLED technology is expected to result in, among other Droid better battery life, shocking assets of more than an hour of talk time rated at (6.4 hours for Droid Incredible, even though we lost a lot more than that in our informal tests vs 5.2 hours of incredible, we exceeded by about an hour), and almost double the standby time (270 vs. 149 hours). This is an amazing discrepancy and disappointing, and means a higher chance of an Incredible so it is not through a day without a boost.

The Incredible is a perfect blend of running almost any mobile phone technology buyers might want. It’s easy, it avoids overdosing on external controls, it is a great and beautiful AMOLED screen has, it is intuitive without crass Annoyances, it is a good to great camera, have a wicked fast web browser and Android’s most state -of-the-art OS. But the incredible voice of the poor quality and life of the battery makes it a difficult decision on customary practice, the heavier, but much better sounding and more durable Motorola Droid.
Motorola Flipout Coming in June
May 14th
According to recent reports, a new Android handset from Motorola is coming this June.
For those who are wondering, the square phone shape that this brand new phone takes is not new, Nokia has a similar device and the Microsoft Kin One is also of a similar look (though the Kin has more rounded edges than the other two devices). Certainly, the phone form works, it is handy and at the same time, pretty compact. Typing on a small 2.8 touch screen would be a serious problem and that is why the slide out, actually, spin out QWERTY keyboard has been put into the device.
Fans of the Android will be happy to know that the Flipout, unlike other Android devices being launched recently, is actually in the more affordable mid-tier price range. Of course, it will not have the high speed Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU. Instead, the phone will be running on Texas Instrument’s OMAP processor which is clocked at a speed of 700MHz. It is actually powerful enough to handle most of the apps and features on the phone, even the occasional loading times and slowdowns are hard to notice.
Then aside from the 2.8 inch screen and the 700MHz CPU, this mid range handset also comes with 256MB of internal memory, support for up to 32GB SD cards and a 3.1 mega pixel snapper for taking images and videos.
Initial screenshots of the device feature the Motoblur user interface so those who will get this device can expect some integration of email updates, social networking sites and possibly even Twitter to already be present in the system.
Motorola is also working on high end Android (or maybe, Androids) that are expected to arrive later this year. There are plenty of rumors that the new Motorola Shadow project is actually making the next Google phone and possibly the Milestone 2 (DROID 2). Find the best Motorola Flipout offers at Moby1 by comparing the latest mobile deals for the Flipout and various other mobile phones free gifts.

The backflip appears as Motorola ME600 on the site of Moto in China, and it’s unlocked 4298 Chinese Yuan (an 8-GB memory card and a car charger in this price) – around $ 629 is, then AT & T will probably sell (hopefully) on the phone for $ 200 or less on a contractual basis.

Jan 2nd

Motorola bets on the Chinese mobile market seriously (the highest) in the world as it always ready to launch yet another high-Android mobile end there, for the Motorola XT800, XT701 Motorola MT710 and Motorola.
While the above three models are 3.7-inch WVGA display above, the Shadow /Mirage apparently has a 4.3-inch WVGA one, which would make the HTC HD2 of the Android world.
Display apart, the other handset (rumor) claims really nice, too: HDMI port, 8MP camera, and HD (1080p) video playback – all in a 9mm thin case.
Unfortunately, there is only one (incomplete) representation of the Motorola Shadow/Mirage.
