Accessing Internet via cell phone is now possible in North Korea

North Korea is a country that likes to do things their own way and completely separated from the outside world. But with the current state of the art, it is quite difficult to completely isolated from people because of the plethora of communications tools. It was just a few years ago that North Korea’s citizens were allowed to use cell phones, and a few days, it was announced that mobile users can now access the Internet.

The North Korean government, under the leadership of Kim Jong-Il, has the appropriate measures to building a 3G network, starting in the capital Pyongyang. The country has a population of 23 million, but only 20,000 people who live there actually cell phones.

I can imagine a good proportion of the number to be that government officials. Unfortunately, for these 20,000 people, the Internet is limited, as a way to censorship. Many of North Korea’s news is censored, so that one of the most important sites that may be its official news agency called the Korean Central News Agency. In addition, the user should access the web on entertainment such as music, information, books, art, and perhaps also in chat. All these functions were based on a Korean site, but it is not known whether they can be accessed on mobile phones.

For the sake of North Koreans, I hope that the Internet is limited, it is not too limited. Anyway, it’s a good step in the right direction for the isolated country. Gadgetell.com Hopefully it will not be blocked in the North Korea.
